Precautions & Tips:
Dress Code: While Dubai is modern, it's part of a Muslim country. Dress respectfully, especially in public places like malls, souks, and religious sites. Shoulders and knees should ideally be covered. Swimwear is fine at hotel pools and public beaches.
Public Displays of Affection (PDA): Keep PDA to a minimum (e.g., hand-holding is generally fine, but kissing/hugging in public is not).
Alcohol: Alcohol is available in licensed hotels, bars, and clubs. It's illegal to drink in public or be publicly intoxicated. The legal drinking age is 21.
Photography: Always ask for permission before photographing people, especially local women. Avoid photographing government buildings or military installations.
Ramadan: If traveling during Ramadan, be aware that eating, drinking, and smoking in public during fasting hours (sunrise to sunset) is prohibited and disrespectful. Restaurants will operate with screened-off areas or reduced hours.
Heat & Hydration: Dubai can be very hot, especially outside the winter months. Drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, hats, and light clothing.
Bargaining: In souks, bargaining is expected and part of the fun. In malls and established stores, prices are fixed.
Tipping: Tipping is customary but not mandatory. 10-15% in restaurants if service charge isn't included, a few dirhams for porters/valets.
Respect Local Culture: Be mindful of local customs and traditions.
Travel Insurance: Highly recommended to cover any medical emergencies, trip cancellations, or lost baggage.
Safety: Dubai is a very safe city with low crime rates. However, always take standard precautions with your belongings.
Weekend: The weekend in Dubai is Friday and Saturday. Some places might have different hours.
Enjoy your incredible trip to Dubai!
